Shifting from a take-make-waste to a circular economy is essential for a thriving future. Let's reimagine how we design and build, beginning with the reuse and renovation of existing spaces. The philosophy behind circular economy is simple: keep valuable raw materials in the cycle as long as possible, maintaining their value while minimizing waste and emissions. This week Mace released its 'Closing the Circle' campaign. Circularity has a huge part to play in reducing our dependence on raw materials. Research from the World Green Building Council in 2023 revealed that despite covering 2% of the world’s surface, cities contributed to half of all resource consumption and a staggering 70% of CO2 emissions. This needs to change and we need to think differently about how we consume materials...https://lnkd.in/gD5RZQEZ

We asked LinkedIn which work you, our esteemed followers, have most engaged with in 2023. The first one did not surprise us: it has to do with legacy and circular cities. But the interest around building sustainable ventures and accelerating the circular transition in the construction sector in Europe was heartwarming. Thank you, dear readers 💚 Here are the top three most-read articles of 2023:• From polluted shipyards to a green district: 10 years of circularity in Amsterdam Noord: https://lnkd.in/eikfFWzN• Introducing the Artichoke Theory of Risk: https://lnkd.in/eijZ3CA2• Circular Buildings Coalition paves the way for a circular transition in the European built environment: https://lnkd.in/eZcV2kAGHope you enjoy them (again) and continue to engage with us here!#sustainability #circulareconomy
